At the start of the year

The interview process and an analysis at the start of the GTP will provide a clear picture of both evidence towards the standards and individual needs for training during the year. We will produce an Individual Training Plan which will supportyour progress towards Qualified Teacher Status.

During the year

You will receive a minimum of 60 days training throughout the year. We offer at least 45 centre based training. The centre-based sessions provide the knowledge base.

School based training is two –fold:

• In your school you will be able to train as you learn in a classroom setting alongside an experienced school based trainer.
• In your school you will engage in both individual training and learning opportunities informed by your previous experiences and areas for development. These opportunities cover a range of experiences including observations of good practice; professional dialogue with subject coordinators of good practice; professional dialogue with subject coordinators and your own reading and research.

The Future

Your employing school and borough will make a significant financial contribution to your training. Before the GT programme begins you will be expected to sign a contract which states that should you be offered employment within Newham you need to accept this unless there is justification for refusal (e.g. moving out of the area; travel). If you do not accept and there is no justification then you will be expected to pay back part of your training grant.

At the moment QTS via a Graduate Teacher route is not recognised as an academic qualification in some countries such as Australia . If you intend to teach abroad we advise you to research qualifications accepted in that country.
