Training Programme Course structure TeachingThe GTP has a real focus of on-the-job training. We view the GTP as beneficial to all parties involved: the graduate teacher; the school and the school based trainer. It is most beneficial to the education of the pupils; 2 teachers in a classroom. You will be placed within a Primary or Nursery School. Here you will have a dedicated school based trainer. This is the member of staff you will be teaching alongside or a more senior member of staff who has time given to help you develop. All our Graduate Teachers are strictly supernumerary: TrainingA range of training activities will be provided to help you achieve Professional Standards for Teaching: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) September 2007. These are the main components. Centre based trainingThis takes place at the Colegrave Primary School. The training covers the general aspects of teaching and learning and preparation for QTS. The taught programme has been designed to help Graduate Teachers experience as much integration as possible between all programme elements, including:
The main focus of the programme is on experience in schools and the main progression within the programme is the acquisition of practical teaching competence supported by critical reflection on practice. The Programme is built on Graduate Teachers’ demonstration of subject knowledge, the ability to analyse and synthesise, to engage critically with theory, to use sources critically and to reflect on their own learning. The School based trainer and the Professional Tutor provide ongoing support and guidance as you progress through the Programme. School TrainingYour school will arrange specific training to meet your needs. There will be an additional five days school training known as INSET days; the Borough allocates these. You will need to attend as directed and should keep all notes and handouts as well as reflection on the day within your evidence files. External trainingYou may get the opportunity to join training outside school. Some of these could be commercial training courses run by a number of organisations. |
